Francesco Iacoviello (Italy)

Originally from Manfredonia in the south of Italy, I completed my BSc in Biotechnology at the University of Milan-Bicocca before moving to Finland to pursue an MSc in Genetics and Molecular Biosciences at the University of Helsinki. During my time in Helsinki, I worked as a Research Assistant at the Institute for Molecular Medicine Finland (FIMM) in Helena Kilpinen's lab, using induced pluripotent stem cell models to study the impact of rare disease-associated mutations on cellular phenotypes and its effect on neuronal development.

I joined Sanger Institute in 2022, where I worked on the generation and validation of primary tissue-derived 3D organoid models and CRISPR-engineered cell lines before moving into a team lead role driving the delivery and optimisation of high-throughput sequencing pipelines, including sample preparation and library construction for Hi-C, Oxford Nanopore, and PacBio long-read sequencing technologies.

In my current role for the Anderson Lab I support scientific delivery providing project-management expertise for both the IBD-Response and OpenIBD projects.

Outside of work I'm always busy looking for the next adventure.
