Georgina Bates (United Kingdom)

I grew up in a rural Cambridgeshire and have always had a passion for science. I completed my BSc in Bioveterinary science at the University of Lincoln in 2014 after uni I went on to work in the lab of Professor Nigel Minton at the Synthetic Biology Research Centre, University of Nottingham researching clostridial gene technologies. After this post I went on to work at the University of Cambridge as a Research Assistant in the lab of Professor Michael Murphy, at the Mitochondrial Biology Unit, working predominately on mitochondrial therapies and LC-MS methodology development.
In 2022, I joined the Wellcome Sanger Institute as a Sample Manager for the Parasites and Microbes programme working on large-scale projects and capacity building with LMICs.
Outside of work I enjoy going the gym! Heading to the cinema and attending a gig or two.
